Run in Muddy fields and Hills?

Chichester Runners have a successful team and individual runners who have done well in the past in local races and leagues.  However whatever your standard is, all are encouraged to come and run.  It is fun to get muddy, wet and cold, especially afterwards in the pub talking about it.  Most of us talk a better race than we actually run?  Have a go and run x-c whatever you age or standard.

See the notice board at the Westgate or phone the club secretary for details of events you wish to run in.

Events

  • Sussex League

  • Hampshire League

  • Sussex Senior Championships

  • Sussex Vets. Championships

  • Southern Counties Championships

  • National Championships

  • Junior teams entered in all age groups in most events

For more information on any of these races contact Phil Baker Club Secretary.

Cross Country Review 2010-11

This is a summary of race reports for the 2010-11 winter season. It is intended to give members something to look back on and possibly jog their memories, as it was October 2010 when we dusted off the old spikes and went hurtling through the woods at Goodwood. I’m also hoping it will inspire club members, who don’t currently partake, to think about giving it a go next season. There are at least two races a month from late autumn to early spring, giving you something to look forward to during those long bleak winter months. Conditions are much more variable than you get in road races, so there's no fretting over your stopwatch. You can just go out and enjoy the countryside and indulge in simple childlike pleasures like splashing through the mud and getting generally dirty.  Running tends to be an individual activity and most of us race for our own personal satisfaction, but cross-country is very much a team event and very social. The courses are spectator-friendly and you get plenty of support from your club-mates, including Phil Baker who will convince you you can make up 50m on the guy in front with just 400m to go.

Highlights

As we did in the previous season, the club picked a lot of medals, listed below. The juniors continue to punch well above their weight, thanks in no small part to the work behind the scenes by our hard-working coaches who continue to nurture emerging talent. At the other end of the age range, those of us in the twilight of our running career continue to find new competitive challenges over the country even as we inevitably slow down with each passing year.
