Club Run


We now have the dates for visits by National Coach, Tom Craggs, to take training sessions namely on Mondays 10th June, 15th July and 12th August. The focus is on progression of speed for specific 10k endurance. These one and half hour sessions are for those who run in 10k races but please not suitable for beginners. All leaders within the club are strongly urged to attend and there will no other sessions on these evenings. For more information please speak with Amanda.

Foundation Group – Meet at 6:30 pm for a 6:45 pm start outside Rugby Club on the top part of Oaklands Park (car park entrance off Wellington Road). Week 5 of a six-week course commencing with a warm up in the park with drills followed by a 7k run to include 12 fartlek sprints of 30 seconds during the run. Led by Helen and the team.

Development Group Meet at 6:30 pm for a prompt start by the pavilion for the cricket pitch on the top part of Oaklands Park (car parking off Wellington Road). Session after a warm-up jog lap of park and drills is a “Just a Minute” hill session. This is 15 times a one minute hard uphill with 90 seconds jog recovery followed by fun relays in teams of four. Remember to focus on high knee lift on the uphill run! Led by Tom & Peter.  

Beginners’ GroupPenultimate week of an eight-week course led by Vicky with a 6:30 pm meet outside the Rugby Club on the top part of Oaklands Park (car park entrance off Wellington Road).

Stretch Class First week of new course in the upstairs gym room at the Chichester College from 8:00 pm. Duration one hour. As ever contact Graham Woodward to sign up and remember to pay him for the whole course (£25) on your first attendance please.

Event Group - Meet at 6:30 pm for a prompt start by the pavilion for the cricket pitch on the top part of Oaklands Park (car parking off Wellington Road). A tempo and hill session of 5 x 4 minutes with two minutes recovery, plus 4 x 30 seconds hill. Led by Keith.

 

Wednesday 15th May – No Trail Run as Trundle View 5.

Beginners’ Group (Week 7) – “Leader” led session at 6:30 pm with meet outside the Rugby Club on the top part of Oaklands Park (car park entrance off Wellington Road).

 

Results

The only recent result identified was at Southampton on Sunday 5th May. Lucy Howard ran the marathon distance in a time of 5.57.05 finishing in 1029th place. In the half Keith Akerman led the club home in 46th place clocking 1.25.19 followed by Jo Prosser (615th – 1.47.35), Jo Brinning (806th – 1.52.12) and returning after a year out with injury Lorna Cowan (2199th – 2.13.48). Joely Wharton ran in the 10k clocking 1.04.49 in 1132nd place.

 

Future Events

Too late to pre-enter for the WSFRL fixture at Portslade on Sunday but entries will be taken on the day. Just still time to pre-enter but do not delay for the Trundle View 5 on Wednesday 15th May with entries taken on the day. The Beach Run at Littlehampton is on Wednesday 22nd May and as ever pre-enter with Peter Anderson via either nadandpeter@btinternet.com or 07786 036820 please.

The second Southern Athletics League meeting for seniors, veterans, U20 and U17 men and women is at Winchester on Sunday 19th May. All welcome to join in the fun as competing means points for the club. Please contact Phil Baker for more details and to book your place via either philbaker5@btinternet.co.uk or 01243 533784.

South London Orienteers are organising three races on Surrey Hills, near Dorking on Sunday 9th June (Pre-entry £8.00). The races are 6 miles (10K), 10 miles (16K) and 18 miles (29K) and they may appeal to those who enjoy trail running. Run under FRA rules with timing check points. Competitors get a map of each race with the check points marked, there is free parking, indoor changing and showers, water stations, timing chips. All the information is on the South London Orienteering website.

The David Lloyd Ultra and Ultra Relay takes place on Sunday 23rd June at 7.00am  starting in Worthing heading out over Highdown Hill, through the Angmering Estate onto the SDW before heading to Falmer and then Brighton Marina via the racecourse. There is a 30-mile option, a 41-mile option and for teams of four a 4 x 10-mile Relay. The entry fee we are told is cheaper than most if not all races around of a similar distance, and includes a Gourmet Burger, hot drink and use of David Lloyd spa facilities at Brighton. The annual Gibbet Hill 10K race will take place on Wednesday 10th July. It is a challenging multi-terrain route, both on and off road within the beautiful Surrey Hills. For details click on : http://www.hbac.co.uk/races/club-races/gibbet-hill-10k.

 

Notices

Excellent Summer Handicap last evening enjoyed by 49 runners and thanks to Peter, Amanda and Elizabeth for organising this event. The event will in future be known as the “Peter Robinson Summer Handicap” to recognise the support given to the club by Peter who is an Honorary Life Member. Congratulations to Michelle Daniel who was first home. The times are already published both on Facebook and this website (Summer Training page).

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include over the weekend the Sussex Track & Field Athletics Championships and on Sunday the WSFRL fixture at Portslade and more locally the Fishbourne Flat 5. In addition, those who are supporting St. Wilfrid’s Hospice in their Moonlight Walk.
