Results

Report from David Churcher: “Chichester Runners & AC`s young athlete Fleur Hollyer opened her 2019 winter season at the prestigious annual London Indoor Games held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in North London on Saturday 5th January. The event attracted athletes of all age groups from across the UK.

Having decided to focus solely on the sprints this year and competing in the U17 age group for the first time Fleur came very close to equalling her PB in the first round of the 60m with 8.46s. However, with a much more fluent drive out the blocks in round two, she set a great new PB of 8.41s agonisingly, just one-hundredths’ short of the National qualifying standard.

With a good lane draw in her first ever indoor 200m Fleur negotiated the tight bends of the indoor track very well, to record an excellent 27.84s, which is not far short of her outdoor PB, and augers well for the summer season.”

Report from Jenny Jakeman: “I competed in the “Fan Dance” 24km race in the Brecon Beacons on Saturday 5th January. I finished first lady in the “unweighted” category race.

The event started with a climb to the top of Pen Y Fan where you were greeted by thick frost and fog, followed by the decent of Jacobs Ladder. Dropping back out of the clouds then came 7km of rolling icy descents past spectacular views to the half way/turn around point. The race was an out and back style. The second half was much more challenging as you turned back around to reverse the course. There was much more climbing on the way back and the icy rocky terrain made it very strenuous on the legs. The steep icy scramble back up Jacobs Ladder was definitely the toughest part of the race but once at the top you were rewarded with a 4km decent to the finish line.

In whole the race was very enjoyable, and I was very surprised to come in as the first lady. XC should feel easy now!”

Miscellaneous Notices.

John will circulate the final arrangements for the Sussex Masters (Saturday 19th January at Lancing) on Tuesday next week. If you have requested to be in the team but do not receive such message, please contact John urgently. There is still time to join in the fun, but John needs to know by next Tuesday at latest please.

Your committee does ask that when running in events you wear proudly the Chichester Runners & AC club vest. This is in particular important in local events e.g. Chichester 10k.

Vicky has now booked the venue for the club’s Presentation Dinner. More information will be circulated in due course but please note your diaries for Saturday 11th May 2019 at the Crab & Apple.

Thanks to Jill and Peter the club related points system for the West Sussex Fun Run League will be amended for the 2019 series. In addition to the points achieved individually based on race position an additional 10 points will be added for every event entered. The objective is to award those who run a large number of such events but necessarily finishing that high up the field. The Fixture List for 2019 is now displayed on the WSFRL website.

The dates for the 28th Annual Corporate Challenge are Wednesday evenings on 27th February, 13th March and 27th March. The Entry Form and further details will shortly be placed on this website. Early entry would be very much appreciated and remember there may not be entries on the evening.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include over the weekend the South of England Indoor Athletics’ Championships and on Sunday the Junior Sportshall League match at Horsham and the Stubbington Green 10k.
