Whilst running with Women, to clarify the U17 Girls have their own individual and team competition but also score in the senior race. U17 Boys must run in their own race. In the finish tunnel, you will be given a token in race finish order and then you will need to register with your age category Team Manager. For veterans age is on date of race.

If not already told him please do contact Phil Baker direct if you are able to assist on the day via philbaker5@btinternet.com.

Across the water on Saturday 30th September Karen Miles and husband Richard again went to Jersey for their marathon and joined 400 others on the start line. Karen finished in 301st place in a time of 4.31.40, whilst Richard was 79th clocking 3.29.08. Great running by both.

North of Chichester on Saturday 30th September was held the multi-terrain Cowdray 10k. The race was won by U20 Ben Robinson in a time of 41.51 followed home by club newcomer Seth Wise (2nd – 42.03), Lucy Hilton (4th & 1st Lady – 42.46), Ian Robertson (33rd – 54.20), Martin Fryer (59th – 59.56), Eric Beck (111st – 73.45) and Jennifer Beck (112th – 73.46). Apologises if anyone missed out but no club reference shown in the results.

There were over 900 runners competing overall in the “Children on the Edge” Chichester Half Marathon, 10 Miler and Relay on Sunday 8th October. This included 58 members of the club with James Baker and Will Boutwood finishing first and second respectively in the half with Fay Cripps second lady, Kim Nelson second V50 and Nick Fenmor-Collins third V40. The full results are posted on www.resultsbase.net/event/3972/results. Excellent running by all.

Lastly but not least in this round-up are the gallant six who went over to Hickstead for the latest WSFRL match on Sunday 8th October. Not surprisingly the club finished lower than usual in the rankings but nevertheless this team collected an excellent 43 points. The contingent within a field of 319 runners was Tom Blaylock (95th – 38.44), Tony Cooley (108th – 39.29), Amanda Godfrey (124th – 40.32), Tracy Lockyear (171st – 44.19), Jill Renson (185th – 45.51) and Sue Baker (215th – 48.16). Well done everyone.

On Sunday 18th February 2018 is the 32nd running of the Wokingham Half Marathon. It is a popular event at a good time of the year to test fitness prior to the main “marathon” season. It is a flat and fast course in a rural setting. For details check out www.wokinghamhalfmatahon.co.uk.

The Clanfield Challenge appears again on the Race calendar next year on Sunday 20th May with more distances on offer ranging from a 1k and 2k dashes (presumably for the youngsters) through 5k,12k to 20k. Click on info@clanfieldchallenge.co.uk for full details.

For the results of the Club Handicap event attracting 38 runners follow the link on the “Winter” training page of the club’s website. Well done to Dave Reading whose estimate of his running time was the closest (only 3 seconds out) to reality and a big thank you to those organising this activity. The next one is on Thursday 2nd November.

Jill via 07904 186704 would like to hear from those who are intending to run the Steepdown Challenge on Sunday 29th October and the Gunpowder Plot (Horsham) on the 5th November.

We have just been informed that from 1st April 2018 the annual registration fee for England Athletics affiliation will rise by £1 to £15. There will be no change to the club registration fee of £100.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include Goodwood tomorrow and the Brighton 10 on Sunday.
