Indoor Sportshall

Following their opening Sussex League match at the beginning of this month, Chichester Runners & AC have arranged a couple of taster/trial sessions for “Indoor Sportshall” athletics before the next fixture on Sunday 15th December.

They will be held at Bishop Luffa School on Sunday 24th November and Sunday 8th December from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm. The sessions are open to both club members and non-members and involve three age groups namely Under 11 (School Years 5 & 6); Under 13 (School Years 7 & 8) and Under 15 (School Years 9 & 10).

There will be a range of activities and coaching for the various events will be given in the first part of each session. On the track the distance will be 2 and 4 laps for sprinters and 6 laps, mainly for middle distance runners plus relays and paarlauf (two athlete relays). The field events will combine standing long jump and triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce as well as shot putt.

Doors will open at the Bishop Luffa Sports Hall at 1.30 pm and there will be a charge of £1 per athlete. This is fun event for both competitors and spectators alike so even if you do not have children of the relevant age do attend and support the club.

Results

A great turn out last Saturday at Stanmer Park and sorry there was a late change of venue for the second match of the Sussex XC League. A full report is on the Home Page of the club’s website. Next up in the league is a return to Stanmer Park on Saturday 30th November 2019 with same timetable (see Sussex Athletics website) and normal arrangements of turn up and enter on the day.

It was a quarter length marathon laps along the Thames Path on Sunday 10th November for the Remembrance Day Running Festival that attracted overall nearly 600 runners. The event understandably and, of course, wholly appropriately had a compulsory two minutes stop at 11:00 am. In the marathon Vicky continued her fine vein of form by clocking 4.19.39, whilst in the half it was fine runs of 1.41.16 and 2.14.58 for Tony Cooley and Simon Thompson respectively.

Wendy Whelan clocked 53 minutes dead for the tough Rewell Wood 5 last weekend.
