South Downs Way Relay 2020.

This year the iconic South Downs Way Relay takes place on Saturday 6th June with the club successfully requesting a third team. This means we will be entering a ladies’ only team as well as the usual men’s or mixed team.

The event starts at Beachy Head early in the morning and finishes near Winchester in the evening. You will be part of a six-person team running three separate legs totalling about 16-18 miles whilst being ferried about by minibus. A great day out for all concerned.

Please be aware this is a competitive event and places in teams will be allocated accordingly. You will need to recce your legs in advance, but full assistance and instructions will be provided. If you have a recent race time please send it in when registering your interest.

South of England Indoor Championships

Chichester Runners & AC`s young athlete Fleur Hollyer opened her 2020 winter season at the South of England Indoor Championships held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in North London over the weekend 11th/12th January.

Competing in the U17 age group, she was 0.05sec short of her personal best in the 60m. With a fluent drive out the blocks she recorded 8.41s for 4th position, agonisingly one place off qualification to the semi-finals.

Fleur was involved in drama in the 200m. Drawn in lane five, and running perhaps her best ever indoor race, she was lying in a qualifying 2nd position coming off the top bend, when an official walked across the track directly into her path forcing her to take evasive action into the inside lane to narrowly avoid hitting him, resulting in her trailing in, back in 4th place. After much discussion, the Track Referee righty decided the race had to be re-run, the result of which saw her finish 2nd in an equal PB time of 27.66sec and qualify for the semi-final, where she recorded 27.70sec for 4th spot. It was lucky that this incident did not have a much more severe consequence.
