Club Place – London Marathon 2020

By now those unsuccessful, as well as the lucky ones who have a place, will have unfortunately received their rejection message. Nevertheless, there is still a chance of a place for the London Marathon 2020 provided you meet the criteria for one of the two club places that will be drawn by ballot before the club’s AGM on Monday 18th November.

Please refer to the Club Info page of this website for the criteria and if you qualify send in a copy of your rejection message and your examples of qualification, especially in respect of criterion 5, for the ballot to John via the Contact Us facility. As each application will be independently vetted by a Panel, applications must be received by Friday 8th November 2019.

The club is proposing to continue with the Yoga classes. The details are as follows:

The cost of the six-week course will be an even more modest £18.

There are currently two places available at 5:00 pm and three places at 7:00 pm. Anyone interested please contact John by replying via the Contact Us facility giving your preferred time(s) with spaces allocated on a first come first served basis.

Club Vest Design Competition.

We need your help please.

We have sourced new running vests and the sizes, shape, cut and material are already set, but we need a new design! There are only two basic requirements, anything else is up to you. Using only white and green for a club vest you must include "Chichester Runners & A.C." Please use the template found on the link on the Club Kit page of this website for your creative design.

Submit before the AGM and the winner will receive £30.00 to spend in The Run Company and a free new club shirt. Good luck.

Results

Despite the lashing rain towards the end of the day a fabulous afternoon of XC racing was enjoyed by 552 runners from U11s’ to a number in their seventies. There were 68 runners from the club and do check out the pics on the club’s website. Whilst the results are now on the Sussex Athletics website, we should highlight a first place for Joshua Dunne in the U13 boy’s race and second team spots for both the Veteran Women and Senior Men teams. A great thank you goes to Phil, Mark and everyone who volunteered on the day from tent putting up and taking down, course marking, tea tent team that incidentally raised a profit of £380, entry/resulting processes and lastly but by no means least those standing out on the course marshalling in such dreadful weather. Again, many thanks for your brilliant support. Next up in the Sussex XC League season is Lancing on Saturday 9th November 2019.

James Baker won the Denmead 10k on Sunday 13th October in  a time of 34.05.

It was well worth the one hour plus drive over to Lindfield on Sunday 13th October for the delightful two times 2.5-mile undulating course around the woods and fields of the surrounding Great Walstead School. It was reasonably muddy but mercifully the rain was limited to a shower or two for this WSFRL match. The club finished eleventh team with a score of 73 points and our contingent within the field of 312 runners was Simon Ludlam (67th – 42.54), Tony Cooley (76th – 43.32), Elizabeth Robinson (89th – 44.40), Tom Blaylock (105th – 45.47), Sue Baker (160th – 50.19), Wim Amir (164th – 50.39), Catherine Betts (170th – 51.14), Jeremy Harrison (175th – 52.06), John Betts (182nd – 52.49), Nic Jolly (193rd – 54.40), Peter Anderson (194th – 54.40), Jill Renson (228th – 59.46) and Johanna Harrison (260th – 64.06). Excellent running by all.

St. Wilfrid’s Hospice is organising for their funds an exciting brand-new Fire Walk event happening on Saturday 26th October at Bognor Football Club. There is a Fire Walk (for ages 14+), and a Lego Walk (ages 6+), or even both for anyone feeling particularly brave! It is intended to be a really fun filled event, with food and refreshments available and a ticketed Halloween themed disco also on the evening, which will be a great way to celebrate your achievement with friends and family afterwards! There is currently a 20% discount on registration fees, with full information on St. Wilfrid’s Hospice website.

We were successful in our application for 45 places in the Club Zone for this Sunday’s Great South Run. John circulated the arrangements direct earlier this week and we hope everyone has a great run and enjoys the experience. Keith Akerman is the point of contact on the day.

The club has been informed that the 350 places for The Moyleman Marathon at Lewes in March 2020 were sold within 12 hours of the event opening.

The WSFRL season draws to a conclusion with the Steepdown Challenge on Sunday 27th October and the final match the Gunpowder Plot at Horsham on Sunday 3rd November. As always pre-enter via Peter Anderson on either nadandpeter@btinternet.com or 07786 036820.

Good luck to everyone running over the next weekend to include on Sunday the fifty plus from the club at Southsea and particular best wishes goes to Justin Eggins who hope will be in York for the Yorkshire Marathon as part of the England team.
