West Sussex Fun Run League (WSFRL)

Last Sunday (14th July) it was a hard 10k run on the Downs above Hove for the latest WSFRL match. A squad of twelve lined up with 270 other runners and accumulated a splendid 74 points finishing as twelfth club. Those running from the club were Marcus Hammerton (52.39), Nadia Anderson (53.24), Tony Cooley (53.24), Jan Hill (56.01), Amanda Godfrey (57.25), Peter Dunne (57.41), Tom Blaylock (58.09), Kevin Williams (58.49), Peter Shaw (65.30), Sue Baker (68.58), Peter Anderson (72.08) and Jill Renson (74.18).    

The next WSFRL match is on Sunday 28th July with a trip over to Henfield (called the Seven Stiles but you will be hard pressed to find them!) for their 5-mile off-road flat run around the river. This fixture is followed by the Highdown Hike on Wednesday 7th August and on Sunday 25th August the Windlesham House 4. Your Races

It was North London on Sunday 14th July for Jo Prosser and Jayne MacDonald to run in the Shoreditch 10k. Jo clocked 48.09 whilst Jayne brilliantly achieved a PB of 58.37. 

James Baker won the Gibbet Hill 10k event laid on by Haslemere AC on Wednesday 10th July in a time of 35.50.

After three events our Southern Athletics League team are in sixth place. The last outing was a host fixture at Basingstoke, and we thank all those who supported the club including a squad of seventeen athletes each covering a number of different events. .

Foundation Group – Meet at 6:30 pm for a 6:45 pm start outside Rugby Club on the top part of Oaklands Park (car park entrance off Wellington Road). Final week of the six-week course undertaking various training activities within the park. Led by Vicky and the team.

Development Group Meet at 6:30 pm for a prompt start by the pavilion for the cricket pitch on the top part of Oaklands Park (car parking off Wellington Road). Session led by Amanda. The session around Graylingwell is entitled the “Mile Time Trial Sandwich” being efforts of 5 x 45 seconds at 10k pace with jog return to start and 3 x 45 seconds efforts at 10k pace and jog return to start.

Stretch Class Tenth week of course in the upstairs gym room (Studio) at the Chichester College from 8:00 pm. Duration one hour.  

Over 70 members enjoyed and appreciated the session last Monday with Tom Craggs. His third and final visit is on Monday 12th August.

Event Group - Meet at 6:30 pm for a prompt start by the pavilion for the cricket pitch on the top part of Oaklands Park (car parking off Wellington Road). A session of 8 x 400m medium hills with 200m jog recovery. Led by Keith.

Summer Trail laid by Jan. Meet Charlton Saw-Mills (SU888128) anytime between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm for a laid trail. From Chichester take the road up to the Goodwood Horse Racecourse and at the top of Dog Kennel Hill turn right at the “Triangle” car park and follow track down to Charlton. At edge of village turn right with car parking around the green. Distance seven miles maximum with a shorter option of four and half miles offered by Jan. All runners run at own risk and must report in and out to the Trail Organiser. 


Thanks to Andy and Jane for laying a great trail around Walderton last Wednesday.


Please note a change of location of trail to Graffham (now not Cowdray Park, Midhurst) on Wednesday 7th August.

Club run led by Vicky suitable for all abilities with meet 6:30 pm at Bosham Co-op car park. Turn left on A259 at roundabout and entrance about 100m on right. Everyone welcome.  


Track session at Bishop Luffa School starting at 6.30pm led by Amanda.


The fifth “Summer Handicap” is being run on Thursday 1st August with meet from 6:30 pm at The Canal Basin (by the Richmond Arms). If you wish to have a timed run please email Peter Anderson via nadandpeter@btinternet.com. It is important to do so as Peter will email everyone with their own individual start time. Alternatively, just turn up and run the route but it may not be practical to include you in the recorded timings.  


Entries are now open for the 2019 Sussex AA 10K Championships taking place at the K2, Crawley (as part of the Tom Lintern Open), on Monday 26th August at 10:00 am. All entrants  must have Sussex County qualification through birth or residence (nine months continuous residence in the County prior to the date of competition). Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include our youngsters at Worthing tomorrow and anyone going up to London for the 10k road race. Also, on Wednesday 24th July the fourth race of the Lakeside 5k series.
