Results

Whilst not identifying any club runners in the Palma Mallorca Races this year thanks to Mark Hazelwood who reported that three Chi Runners from a previous year’s event were pictured on a hoarding and on the front of the race calendar. Presumably for racing publicity only and not that they were on a “wanted” list!

Jackie Allen’s ambition when joining the Beginners Group a year ago was to run a half marathon without walking within a time of two hours twenty minutes. We are so pleased to report that Jackie comfortably met her target at the wet and windy Royal Parks Half Marathon last Sunday. Well done Jackie.

The results for the Sussex XC Relays at Goodwood last Saturday are now published on the Sussex Athletics website. There was a good turn out from the club in respect of running with 22 teams overall, plus ten in the U11 event. Many thanks to the gallant band who helped on the day but quite frankly we were a bit short of volunteers. County medals were achieved by V40 Men (Bronze), V60 Men (Bronze), Senior Ladies (Bronze), V45 Women (Silver), V55 Women (Silver), U15 Girls (Silver) and U13 Boys (Gold). In respect of fastest laps County medals were collected by Richard Miles (V60 Men - Bronze), Alice Wright (Senior Lady - Silver), Jane Harrop (V55 Lady - Gold), Olivia Toms (U15 Girl - Bronze) and Harvey McGuiness (U13 Boy - Bronze).

The latest Running Festival at Goodwood on Sunday 14th October was a very wet and blustery occasion but from reports did not detract for the 800 competitors from an enjoyable and well organised event. Identified in the half marathon were the first two home being James Baker (1.14.14) and Chris Bird (1.17.12) respectively.

The 10k distance was more popular with our members including Sue Barty (92nd – 51.46), David Knowles (106th – 52.41), Ashley Pledger (112th – 53.26), Jeremy Harrison (134th – 54.23), Greg Maynard (212nd – 58.19), Mark Ring (394th – 69.02), Jackie Harrison (399th – 69.43), Sanchia Stanleigh-Turner (468th – 75.37) and Johanna Harding (469th – 75.37).

It was 7th place with 88 points for the squad who went over to Great Walstead School, Lindfield for the latest match in the WSFRL on Sunday 14th October. This was new venue for Haywards Heath Harriers replacing Hickstead and the challenging five-mile XC course around the fields and woods from the school did not disappoint. Hopefully this event will continue next year. The club’s runners were Emma Hughes, Marcus Hammerton, Tim Brown, Sarah Morris, Nadia Anderson, Tony Cooley, Tom Blaylock, Amanda Godfrey, John Betts, Nicola Jolly, Sue Baker, Peter Anderson and Jill Renson.

Miscellaneous Notices

It is now likely that the club will receive two club places for the 2019 London Marathon as we have recently exceeded 150 senior England Athletics’ registrations. Clubs can only apply for these places from 5th November. Meanwhile if you do wish to be considered for the ballot (at AGM) for these places please respond via the CONTACT US button and a reminder that you must have been unsuccessful in your bid for 2019 event and have a current EA registration.

Peter Anderson via 07786 036820 or nadandpeter@btinternet.com would like to hear from you please about running for the club in the WSFRL matches at Lancing (Steepdown Challenge) on Sunday 28th October and at Horsham (Gun Powder Trot) on Sunday 4th November.

Please spread the word that the next Chichester Run England Beginners’ Course will start on Monday 29th October. Mark Ring is managing this course.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include on Sunday the thirty plus from the club running in the Great South Run. Jeremy is taking over the club flag for displaying in the club zone area and tells us that several are traveling by train on the 8:02 am from Chichester.

NOTES

It is imperative that everyone attending a club training session wears high-viz/reflective clothing and the Leaders reserve the right to exclude anyone not meeting this requirement. This includes those with head torches as your back also requires to be clearly visible to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Also, please be aware and respectful of pedestrians and other users of the pathway, especially when running in groups. Thank you all for your support in this regard.

FROM CHICHESTER RUNNERS & AC COMMITTEE.
