“Cake Run” Training Group Notice

The leaders of the “Cake Run” Training Group met recently and decided that from Monday 4th June the following changes would be implemented:

The new Beginners Group starts on Monday 4th June and Mark Ring will lead on Monday 4th and Wednesday evenings. Thereafter the Beginners Group will be led by another leader on a rota basis.

The Group will no longer be offering a 5k run. Instead, members can choose to participate in the usual structured training session or can choose to participate in a ‘Learn to love hills’ session that will be trialled.

The ‘Learn to love hills’ training will incorporate training within the vicinity of Oaklands Park, including Centurion Way.  For these training sessions we will be introducing a sign-up sheet, you will sign up on arrival to the Monday night session.  For Health and Safety reasons only 8 members will be able to join the session per leader available on the evening. If two leaders are available, then up to 16 members and so on. There are no changes to the usual Monday evening “Cake Run” training session and this does not have any limit on numbers.

Mark has kindly offered to coach members and discuss their running style etc. If you are interested, please contact Mark direct and he will give you a slot.  If you have a slot, then join in the usual training and Mark will call you out when it is your turn.

Any questions please contact a Leader.

As usual, the weekend following the WSFRL Downlands Dash in Hassocks there is the St. Lawrence Fair just down the road in Hurstpierpoint on Saturday 30th June. A five-mile race  over a beautiful course that runs past Danny House and over Wolstonbury Hill being part of the traditional village fair that this year commemorates 100 years since the terms of the armistice were drawn up at Danny House at the end of the Great War. It is a small event with great prizes, starting and finishing at the fair ground with the fun fair and beer tent. There is also a short 1.5-mile route (without the hill) for youngsters. More details at http://www.stlawrencefair.org.uk/events/fun-run/

Once again Overton Harriers are hosting a Hampshire Road Race League event with the 30th running of the Overton 5 at 2:00 pm Sunday 2nd September. For online entry and details go to the Overton Harriers website.

Good luck to everyone running this week to include our two teams in the South Downs Way Relay tomorrow and on Sunday the Worthing 10k. We wish our friends at the Tri Club all the best for the Chichester Tri Series of events over the weekend.
