The Club Needs More Leaders

In order to keep offering the number of sessions each week that we currently do the club is in urgent need of more leaders. The next local courses (at Eastleigh) are on 2nd January, 8th March and 2nd May next year and the club will fund the course fees. Anyone interested please contact either Amanda or Vicky (just respond via the CONTACT us facility and John will pass on your name) and/or come to a session on Monday 2nd December at 7.30pm in the Clubroom at The Pavilion, Chichester College to find out more from Vicky and Amanda.

Sussex XC League – Match 3

It is back to Stanmer Park, Falmer, Brighton (BN1 9SE) for the next and third match of the Sussex XC League on Saturday 30th November. All details are on the Sussex Athletics website, but the timetable and entry arrangements remain as normal. Remember it is a reasonable walk from your cars to the park, plus it is entry on the day. A great venue and brilliant course so please can we continue to get a good turn-out at all levels.

Club Quiz/Curry Evening

A final reminder that the club’s next Quiz/Curry evening is Friday 29th November at The Pavilion, Chichester College starting at 7:15 pm for food with the first Q of the Quiz being asked at around 7:45 pm. Entry is open to guests with price a very modest £8 to include buffet, quiz, free raffle ticket and other goodies. Hot and cold drinks can be purchased from the bar but please do not bring your own as against the college’s bar licence. Do not worry if either alone or not having a team as this will be sorted out on the evening.

To date 51, so very close to our maximum numbers, are attending and therefore please do let John know further names by responding to this message today or tomorrow by the latest as he needs to book the food on Sunday (24th).

AGM

An excellent number at the club’s AGM last Monday with nearly 50 in attendance. A big thank you to all those who stepped down from the committee this time and the club has thrived greatly under their stewardship. Your new chairman is Amanda Godfrey with the treasurer role being taken over by Laura Holder and with Jeremy Harrison, Jon McElhill and Andy Hall joining the committee.

To confirm members agreed to a small increase in subscription rates and that the athletics training track project should continue. A Steering Group was set-up to review the design of the club kit and associated matters, whilst Rob Wiggins was well deservedly awarded Honorary Life Membership.

With grateful thanks to Vanessa, the club times for the Gosport Half Marathon last Sunday (17th November) were Vicky Balandis 1:44:52, Trevor Baker 1:52:34,  Terry Goddard 1:58:51, Jo Brining 1:58:53, Vanessa Anthony 2:09:17, Michelle Daniel 2:09:20, Simon Thompson 2:10:10, Ian Knight 2:14:31, Jane Taylor 2:21:00, Lucy Howard 2:25:22, Helen Wilkins 2:39:50 and Richard Woolston 2:48:26. Great running by all.

Castle Drogo 10 Miles – Report by Catherine Betts.

“It was a bright but cold day for this event in Devon on Sunday 17th November. The course is tough with narrow, rocky paths, steep hills (2110-foot elevation), lots of mud and amazing views. There is also a lovely couple of miles running beside the fast-flowing river.

At mile nine there was a very steep hill and just as I approached the summit a wild Dartmoor pony appeared and trotted very friendly like along beside me before disappearing into the bracken. The highlight of the event, apart from James (Baker) winning the race in just over an hour, was meeting up with the relocated Chichester Runners’ Angus Farrelly and Julie Stansfield and it was great to see them both fit and well”
