It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Chichester Runners& AC athletes at the Sussex Indoor Championships, held at the David Weir Athletic Centre in Sutton over the weekend 17th/18th February.

Fleur Hollyer (U15) using starting blocks for the first time, ran a PB of 8.44sec in the 60m, to qualify for the semi-final, were she stopped the clock at 8.50sec. She also recorded 10.75sec in the 60m Hurdles semi-finals, just short of her PB. Her focus is now on the National Championships at Sheffield in a weeks’ time.

In the U17s faulty starts unsettled Emily Russell and Phoebe Pontet who were drawn together in 60m where they recorded a close run 8.86 and 8.92sec respectively. Phoebe later went on to claim fourth place (10.51sec) in the 60m Hurdles Final.

U20 Alyssa White won the Long Jump with a season’s best 5.13m but unfortunately it came at a price. Her fourth-round jump saw her loose her footing off the board and turning her ankle. Fortunately, an X-ray revealed no damage, as at first feared but a badly bruised ligament.

Richard Strudwick finished 35th in the Slindon Slog Trail Run on Sunday 18th February clocking 1.59.43.

The SEAA Endurance Working Group has compiled a survey based on suggestions and proposals received over the past year regarding their Endurance Events. The survey contains ten questions asking for details on your activity in athletics and your opinions on Changes to the Masters XC Championships and the Main XC Championships. The aim is to ascertain the views of affiliated club members before making any changes. The Survey that ends on 21st March is available here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XFBWGK2

There is still one place left for the First Aid Course being run on Tuesdays 13th and 20th March. It should be emphasised that the club expects all leaders/coaches to have a current first aid qualification so if you do not have such qualification or your current one has less than one year left now is the time to re-qualify. Please respond to this message and John will pass on your details to Rob who is organising this course.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include tomorrow the Nationals at Parliament Hill Fields and the Brighton Half on Sunday.
