Summer Trail Runs

Hooray it is nearly here with the start of the summer trail runs on Wednesday 28th March. Peter will be up first laying a trail around Kingley Vale with the meet at West Stoke car park (SU825088). From the Northgate Roundabout take the Funtington Road (B1278) and when road turns sharply to the left take the right turn signed West Stoke. Go straight across at cross roads and up the hill past Oldwick Farm and then turn left when reaching T-junction. Go through the village and past church and where road takes a sharp left turn right for car park. Peter is laying two trails of around 6 and 4 miles each.

For those new to trail runs and a refresher for the regulars this is not a race but an opportunity to run in our local beautiful countryside either individually or in small groups. Start anytime between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. A course of around six/seven miles with often the opportunity to shorten is laid by a mixture of flour dots and arrows. The Trail Organiser will in any event describe the course and the make-up of the marking. Please remember all participants run at their own risk and everyone must please book in and book out.

Chichester Corporate Challenge

Another successful year over with more than 2500 runners over the three races. Thankfully conditions were ideal making for some great competitive running and many runners throughout all races improving on their times each occasion. A big thank you to Phil, Mark and Jill who took the lead with this event, plus everyone who supported the club by helping on the evenings in a variety of roles. A brilliant team effort.

The poor weather played havoc with many runners’ plans with notable cancellations at both Eastleigh and Reading whilst we understand Bath suffered a similar fate the week beforehand. The Hastings Half went ahead but we do not appear to have anyone competing in this event. It demonstrates how lucky the club was in respect of the weather for the CCC series.

The club has had a mention from across the pond with Chris Zablocki referring to us in a recent article for the New York Times.

Despite a Saturday (17th March) that was set to be full of wind, rain and snow, just over 2,000 athletes turned up to the grounds of Temple Newsam, on the outskirts of Leeds, for the English Schools' Cross-Country Championship 2018. In total there were six races, across tricky, muddy terrain, up and down hills. These testing conditions required perfect timing and judgement to be successful!

The club had representation of eight athletes for Sussex helping the County to come away with two Bronze team awards. In the Intermediate Girls race Olivia Wiseman was second Sussex runner home in 31st place helping Sussex to the third spot. Ned Potter finished 59th in the Inter Boys event. It was third place for the Senior Boys with Will Broom leading Sussex home in 20th place followed by Leo Stallard (67th) and Ben Morton (190th). The trio of Imogen Matthews (68th), Alice Cox-Rusbridge (135th) and Beth Brown (291st) aided Sussex to 15th place kin the Senior Girls’ race. Excellent running by everyone.
