Club Xmas Get Together

A date for your diary please being Saturday 16th December when all are invited to a get together from 8:00 pm at The Belle Isle, Chichester. It is just turn-up and then enjoy a great evening with club members.

Sussex XC League

The third match of the Sussex XC League is on the brilliant Downs above Lancing Manor on Saturday 2nd December with the timetable the same as the first two events (see calendar on website). Please note there is usually no parking in the Leisure Centre car park but plenty around the area. At the time of penning this Newsletter we do not know if the Centre will permit use of the changing’ rooms but they did last year provided dirty shoes removed.  As always, this event is turn up and enter individually on the day and the club encourages all to do so as the number making up our teams overall adds significant weight to our points score.

Training

It is imperative that everyone attending a club training session wears high-viz/reflective clothing and the Leaders reserve the right to exclude anyone not meeting this requirement. This includes those with head torches as your back also requires to be clearly visible to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Results

Rebecca Moore signed of her last race in a Chichester vest as now living and working away from the area celebrated in great style with a first lady (37th overall) in the Brighton 10k road race on Sunday 19th November clocking 34.51. We wish Rebecca every success for the future and it is hoped she will represent us from time to time on a Second Claim basis.

There was good representation from the club within the field of 1666 runners for the flat and potentially fast Gosport Half Marathon last Sunday (19th) won in a sub-seventy minutes time by James Baker (69.50). Following James home was Chris Bird (15th – 1.13.51), Justin Eggins (119th – 1.24.07), Ashley Hiom (105th – 1.42.04), Nadia Anderson (683rd - 1.45.13), David Nash (725th – 1.46.02), John Le Lievre (1019th – 1.56.28), Greg Maynard (1051st – 1.57.45), Lynette Woodward (1171st – 2.03.04), Ian Stevens (1291st – 2.08.51), Peter Anderson (1321st – 2.10.17) and Kik Loosley (1449th – 2.17.44). Excellent running y everyone.

Club Places for London & Brighton Marathons

To clarify we will not know until 8th December how many club places allocated for London. At the ballot last Monday Nadia Anderson was drawn for club place one with Julian Moore having the second place, if allocated, and if not to be first reserve. In order of allocation the other reserves are Amanda Godfrey, Lorna Cowan and Gary Williams.

As to Brighton the club has been allocated ten places. To date Jan Hill, Sandra Nemorin-Noel, Tom Pritchard, Amanda Trafford, Eric Beck, Rick Pullen, Rachael Austin and Lorna Cowan have a club entry. Anyone interested in the last two places should contact John by next Tuesday mid-night (28th) with allocation processed strictly on a “first come first served” basis.

John will be in contact direct with everyone with a club place in due course.

PS

We thank those who attended the AGM last Monday. Once completed and then checked for accuracy the Draft Minutes will be circulated to members hopefully prior to the festive period.

Congratulations to ex-member Jess Breach who scored six tries for England Women’s Rugby team in her test match debut against Canada last weekend. Our President has sent a “well done” letter on behalf of the club to Jess.

Just a reminder that in December the club will require to know the names of those intending to run in the Sussex, Area and National XC Championships during January/February 2018. There are strict entry processes with a long lead in time for the Area and Nationals.

We look forward to seeing the 44 of you attending the Quiz/Curry Evening tonight (24th). If you are now able to attend, please do tell John (use the Contact icon) beforehand and not just turn up. Thanks.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include on Sunday the Hayling 10 miler.
