Great “marathon” runs by Philip Carr at Brighton Marathon a couple of weeks ago and Jon McElhill (3.35.50) in Boston (US) last weekend where there was a dramatic sprint finish for first place but sadly not featuring Jon!

It was an extremely warm day on Monday 22nd April for the second fixture of the WSFRL season with several runners suffering badly, not helped by there being no on-route drinks station. The club finished 11th team with exactly 100 points accumulated by the nineteen in the squad.

In the field of 639 runners for the 10k route on mixed terrain was our contingent of Lucy Thraves (24th – 41.18), Billy Simmons (31st – 42.13), Simon Thraves (80th – 46.18), Gary Williams (92nd – 46.58), Tim Brown (104th – 47.47), Mike Moorcroft (109th – 48.07), Matt Fewtrell (115th – 48.56), Tony Cooley (123rd – 49.26), Nadia Anderson (135th – 50.07), Marcus Hammerton (141st – 50.29), Jack Godfrey (162nd – 51.19), Jan Hill (209th – 53.49), Amanda Godfrey (229th – 54.42), Tom Blaylock (235th – 55.09), Nicki Jolly (274th – 57.31), Peter Anderson (338th – 1.01.46), Jeremy Harrison (339th – 1.01.47), Sue Baker (359th – 1.03.41) and Jill Renson (405th – 1.07.29).

On Wednesday 24th April was the first race in the five-race series of the Lakeside 5k. This year the event has opened up to the juniors that attracted as well as our usual suspects from the club two U13’s and an U15. James Baker finishing third and first V40 (16.01) led the club home followed by Jason Snow (29th – 18.19), Fionn O’Murchu (35th & 2nd U15 – 18.38), Keith Akerman (37th – 18.46), Jane Harrop (50th & 1st V55 – 19.43), Laila Hellyer (54th & 1st U13 – 19.57), Lily Hellyer (61st & 2nd U13 – 20.28), Ian Shaw (75th – 21.27), Helen Dean (76th & 1st V60 – 21.33), Andrew Harrop (108th – 25.48) and Sue Baker (112th - & 2nd V60 – 26.00).

A reminder that the next WSFRL fixtures are Portslade Hedgehoppers 5 (Sunday 12th May), Trundle View 5 (Wednesday 15th May and the club’s own race) and Beach Run at Littlehampton (Wednesday 22nd May). As ever pre-enter with Peter Anderson via either nadandpeter@btinternet.com or 07786 036820 please.

If you are not running in the club event on Wednesday 15th May (there will be no “trail run”) and can assist, please tell Jill Renson or just reply to this message via the CONTACT US facility.

On the “Calendar” page of this website is attached a flyer in respect of the Fishbourne Flat Five being held on Sunday 12th May 2019.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend, especially those lucky enough to be running in London on Sunday and our “junior” juniors who start their track and field season on Saturday.

It would be very helpful if all “London Marathon” runners from the club let John (just use the CONTACT US facility) have a note of your time as well as a short note of how you found the occasion.
