Distance seven miles maximum with a shorter option of four miles offered by Mark. All runners run at own risk and must report in and out to the Trail Run Organiser.

Thanks to David/Sue, Alastair and Stephen who laid the last three excellent trails. Remember the trail is marked with a mix of directional arrows and dots (to indicate route continues straight on). Please note that the club does expect those running the trails to be members of the club and there is a “Summer Only” subscription category solely for this purpose. Access to the online payment system is via this website.

It was difficult to identify our runners in the results for the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April. Those spotted were James Baker (2.34.36), Tom Pritchard (3.04.39), Jason Boswell (3.23.00), Rick Pullen (3.30.07), Jon McElhill (3.33.50), Jan Hill (4.14.39), Ian Robertson (4.41.24), Sandra Nemorin-Noel (4.53.04), Lorna Cowan (5.15.00) and Clare Snow (6.48.52).

A search of the London Marathon results (last Sunday) indicated the following finishers from the club namely: Chris Bird (2.41.23), Mike Houston (2.44.17), Mikey Neville (2.56.13), Lucy Thraves (3.24.52), Lee Neumann (3.44.44), Andrew Whitfield (4.50.06), Jenette Whitfield (4.59.32), Helen Wilkins (7.11.49) and Jackie Tims (7.18.31).

Charles Rodmell did the Centurion South Downs Way 50 miler on Saturday 7th April. He tells us being in a relaxed 16th place out of 400 at 15 miles but then had to slow due to a calf injury picked up the previous week. Charles pootled along until 35 miles and then sensibly decided not to risk it anymore and dropped out. He thanks Gary Williams for crewing him. The winning time was a course record 5:44 that is astonishing considering as it is all off road, with 1750m of ascent. There is always next time Charles.

Grahame and Joanne Brown tell us that Issy as previewed a few weeks ago did successfully complete the Horsetooth Half Marathon in a time of 1.54.

The delightful undulating trails around the Angmering Estate hosted a double 10 on Sunday 22nd April known as the “Bluebell Run”. In the 10 miler Asta Asaka (1.17.41) led the club home followed by Mike Moorcroft (1.21.22), Lizzie Gerald (1.32.31), Mark Jennings (1.35.47) and Hugh Davies (1.54.28). The 10k option included Graham Timson (41.14), Eric Beck (50.39), Kirsty Taylor (57.34), Jennifer Beck (1.11.20), Sarah Kiddle (1.15.42), Jan Ring (1.16.15) and Clare Boxall (1.26.36).

Four members joined thousands of others at the Southampton Festival of Running on Sunday 22nd April. They all completed in the half marathon namely Matthew Irwin (1.50.51), Ellen Perry (2.01.20), Victoria Irwin (2.07.50) and Laura Filer (2.19.05).

The Lakeside 5k series returned on Wednesday with again an excellent showing from club members. James Baker won the race in a time of 16.01 followed by Justin Eggins (18.43), Keith Akerman (18.58), Stephen Davy (19.18), Jane Harrop (20.39), Helen Dean (22.19), Andrew Harrop (24.12) and Sue Baker (27.27). Sadly, the next race clashes with The Trundle Hill Run on Wednesday 23rd May.

Club Presentation Dinner/Dance

Elaine Cruttenden wishes to thank everyone for generously buying raffle tickets and to those club members who donated/sourced prizes, to raise funds for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. The amazing sum of £310.10 was raised at the Dinner/Dance. This is a good start for the £1600 that Elaine needs to raise to go on the Chestnut Tree House Inca Trail trek in November 2019. She is self-funding the trip, so every penny raised will go to the charity.

The dinner/dance was considered a great success with everyone making the effort to dress up and look fabulous. The food and service were excellent. Keith gave a great speech and the awards were presented as follows:
