a)    The next Sussex XC League match is at Little Common, Bexhill on Saturday 11th November. It is turn-up and enter on the day. See the “Calendar” entry on the club’s website for full details.

The club’s AGM is on Monday 20th November at 8:00 pm in The Pavilion, Chichester College. Formal Notice and supporting documents will be circulated via email prior to the meeting.

The next club Quiz/Curry evening is scheduled for Friday 24th November, also at The Pavilion, Chichester College. We will circulate more information and request for numbers nearer the date.

The “December” club Handicap Event has been brought forward to Wednesday 6th December to avoid a clash with late night shopping in the period up to Xmas. Amanda and Lorna are considering using the “Thursday” for their planned “Wednesday” session that week.

The South of England XC Championships are on Saturday 27th January with the venue now selected as Stanmer Park, Falmer, near Brighton. Good news with travel time down to under an hour on a great and scenic course.

It is imperative that everyone attending a club training session wears high-viz/reflective clothing and the Leaders reserve the right to exclude anyone not meeting this requirement.

Good luck to those attending the “Beginners’ Group” who next week (twice) attempt their challenge of running continuously for 30 minutes. Next-up for the group is entering a 5k event, likely one of the local brilliant “parkruns”. Great achievement by all and thanks to Mark and his team of helpers for facilitating this excellent course.

Please note that all training sessions are inclusive to all and members are welcome to change back and forth between groups.

Club Marathon Places

We have not yet been advised about the number of club places allocated by Virgin London Marathon for the 2018 race, but we are aware that they will be available. Last year based on our EA affiliations the club received two places. To date there has been no information circulated in respect of Brighton. Nevertheless, your Committee has decided that we should seek interest now for both events so that a ballot can be made prior to the AGM.

In respect of “London” only those Club Members who entered the 2018 race and received a rejection email can apply to be entered in the ballot. Please do so by Friday 17th November by either email chichesterrunners@googlemail.com or the “Contact” icon on the club’s website sending a copy of the rejection message. To date Vicky B, Lorna C, Rachael A, Rick P, Helen W and Amanda G have already qualified for the ballot and they do not need to re-apply.

As to “Brighton” it is open to everyone so just put your name forward for a place using the same contact process. Remember the market rate entry fee is payable for both events.

As part of his “Autumn” training week on Exmoor this week James Baker on the way down nearly beat the 16 second barrier for the “Moors Valley” parkrun before the next day winning by nearly 10 minutes the 15.1-mile Category “A” Fell Race from Minehead to Dunkery Beacon (highest point on Exmoor) and back in a time of 1.54.39.

Fortunately, the very poor weather that sadly caused the abandonment of the Saturday events abated a bit to allow the masses to compete in the Great South Run on Sunday 22nd October. Nevertheless, the conditions were still very windy but from the coverage did not dampen the enjoyment and enthusiasm of all sent on their way by Dame Kelly Holmes.

First home for the club was Chris Bird (56.14) followed by Mike Houston (1.00.37), Mickey Neville (1.00.53), Justin Eggins (1.04.19), Imogen Matthews (1.09.53), Alice Cox-Rusbridge (1.12.16), Gareth Glass (1.15.33), Kim Nelson (1.15.57), Polly Neville (1.18.18), Ashley Hiom (1.18.54), Winston Bond (1.20.57), Peter Carver (1.22.20), John Le Lievre (1.28.26), Vicky Balandis (1.28.39), Hilary Brown (1.32.47), Jenette Whitfield (1.33.23), Lynette Woodward (1.34.35), Christine Loosley (1.39.02), Sara Wareham (1.39.54), Rebecca Green (1.42.35), Claire Solliss (1.46.57), Simon Thompson (1.47.41), Richard Woolston (1.54.02), Jennifer Harland-Jones (1.55.18) and John Holloway (2.02.03). Excellent running by all. It was also good to note James Ellis (The Run Company) galloping around in 56.14.

The club had a visit last Wednesday from Sarah Gardiner, the EA Regional Club Support Manager. Sarah met several from the committee and joined in the session led by Amanda and Lorna with support from Dave. She commented positively on the quality of the training and that we were a friendly and clearly happy lot. Thankfully a few of our jokers were on best behaviour! There will be some pics in due course on the website and there is a post on the https://twitter.com/EAClub_Support EA twitter feed.

A reminder that you can purchase for only £1 a car parking disc for Chichester College. It allows free parking up to three hours 24/7 until 31st August 2018. Discs can be purchased from either the bar in The Pavilion or at the front desk in the Sports Hall.

Jill via 07904 186704 would like to hear from those who are intending to run the WSFRL “Gunpowder Plot” (Horsham) on the 5th November.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include on Sunday the WSFRL “Steepdown” Challenge at Lancing Manor. Too late to pre-enter but you can do so on the day and why not run this race to test the hills prior to the Sussex XC League Match there on Saturday 2nd December.
