Brighton Half Marathon – Report from Jon McElhill

“A hardy group of Chichester Runners took on the perils of Brighton’s windiest ever half marathon last weekend (Sunday 23rd February). Battling gales and gusts up to 50mph, nine club members completed the course, despite the ferocious south westerly. This made for an extremely tough middle section and for those with energy left, a flying final 5km along the seafront.

First Chi Runner home, in 16th place, was James Baker (1:14:43) with Keith Akerman in 137th (1:25:37), Seth Wise 170th (1:26:50) and Richard Holder 241st (a storming PB of 1:28:40). Jon McElhill breezed home to take second place in VM60 (465th overall in 1:35:08). Colin Enticknap was next (669th, 1:37:49) followed home by Ian Robertson (1.46.51) with Clare Snow our only female runner (2:12:30) and Richard Woolston our final brave soul (2:40:43).”

Thanks for the report Jon and extremely well done by all.

National XC Championships – Report from Jim Garland

“A great time was had, despite some of the stickiest mud I have encountered on a XC course for the 2020 National XC Championships in Nottingham on Saturday 22nd February. Fortunately, there was also plenty of firm ground in the stunning setting of Wollaton Hall, and the rain held off for the whole afternoon. Beth had a great run in the Senior Women's race, coming 35th out of 911 finishers, whilst I was a more sedate 989th out of 1710 finishers. Highly recommended for its unique atmosphere and camaraderie, whether an elite runner or Joe Jogger.” Thanks for the report Jim and congratulations to you both for brilliant runs.

England Athletics Indoor Championships – Report from David Churcher

“Young athlete Fleur Hollyer (U17) concluded her successful 2020 Indoor season with a great personal best 60m performances (improvement from 8.28 at Sutton a week ago) in the England Athletics Indoor Championships in Sheffield on Saturday 22nd February 2020.

Drawn in an unfavourable outside lane, she produced probably her finest start of her athletic career to date. With a dynamic five stride drive phase, followed by her now familiar strong pick-up phase, she held her form to finish fifth in 8.22sec.” Brilliant run Fleur and now the preparation starts for the forthcoming outdoor season.
