Summer Trail Runs

The club’s summer trail runs start on Wednesday 3rd April.  David Dorning will be first up laying a trail around Kingley Vale with the meet at West Stoke car park (SU825088). From the Northgate Roundabout take the Funtington Road (B1278) and when road turns sharply to the left take the right turn signed West Stoke. Go straight across at cross roads and up the hill past Oldwick Farm and then turn left when reaching T-junction. Go through the village and past church and where road takes a sharp left turn right for car park. David is laying two trails of around 6 and 4 miles each.

For those new to trail runs and a refresher for the regulars this is not a race but an opportunity to run in our local beautiful countryside either individually or in small groups. Start anytime between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. A course of around six/seven miles with often the opportunity to shorten is laid by a mixture of flour dots and arrows. The Trail Organiser will in any event describe the course and the make-up of the marking. Please remember all participants run at their own risk and everyone must please book in and book out with David.

It was PBs’ galore for our contingent who ran the streets of Eastleigh on Sunday 24th March. This well organised event has been going for many years and always attracts a sell-out field of runners. U20 Leo Stallard running his first 10k led home in 19th place brilliantly clocking 33.44 followed by Keith Akerman (112th – 38.04), Graham Woodward (117th – 38.10) and Jason Snow (148th – 39.03).

Jo Corbett was just pipped to the post in the Weymouth Half Marathon last Sunday clocking 1.13.27 for his second place. The event attracted 973 runners.

James Baker won the Tuff 20 on Sunday 24th March that is completely off-road taking in the South Downs and has several steep climbs of note.

The first Southern Athletics League meeting for seniors, veterans, U20 and U17 men and women is at Basingstoke on Saturday 13th April. This is an enjoyable event with a strong team ethic and a great chance to compete in something new. All welcome finishing and last earns more points than actually having no one in an event! Please contact Phil Baker for more details and to book your place via either philbaker5@btinternet.co.uk or 01243 533784.

Grateful thanks to Phil, Mark and everyone who assisted in making the Corporate/Schools Challenge series such a great success. Please check out this website for the results.
