Results

The old saying that if you aspire to be the best, you must compete with the best, was certainly the case for Chichester Runners & AC young athlete Fleur Hollyer who competed at her first England Athletics Championships held at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield over the weekend 24th/25th February. With a PB well inside the qualifying Championship entry standard Fleur was drawn in lane six of a tough heat of the U15`s 60m. Using starting blocks for only the second time in her career, she had a very competent drive and pick-up phase, and along with a good finish Fleur claimed 5th place in 8.49sec, just 0.05 off her PB. Running spikes and equipment can sometimes be quite expensive but experience, which cannot be bought or coached is priceless.

Chris Bird and Justin Eggins both went to Wokingham for their Half Marathon on Sunday 18th February clocking 1.13.59 and 1.23.11 in 25th and 162nd places respectively.

It was a Half Marathon PB of 1.25.11 for Keith Akerman at Brighton last Sunday (25th) finishing in 129th place. The only other identified Chi Runner was Jon McElhill who claimed 763rd clocking 1.37.15.

Sundry Items

There is a Relay Race between Emsworth and Basingstoke on Saturday 19th May 2018. It is teams of six each doing three legs over 50 miles. Amanda is organising the team(s) so those interested contact her direct via amandagodfrey@btinternet.com. Runners will need to recce the course that can be undertaken by groups.

We again invite everyone to join us either as a competitor, helper or both in the City Centre on Wednesday 7th March for the second race of the Chichester Corporate Challenge series. All arrangements are the same as last week, save anyone running below 18 minutes for the 4.5k course must attend earlier to compete in the “A” race.

Remember please to book your place(s) for the club’s Presentation Dinner/Dance at the Crouchers Hotel (Birdham Road) on Saturday 14th April.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend.

FROM CHICHESTER RUNNERS & AC COMMITTEE.
