Forthcoming XC Championships

After this weekend with the second round of the Sussex XC League at Stanmer Park meaning a break until February our attention must turn to entering a number of Championship XC races. With these events it is entry via the club and all runners must have a current England Athletics registration.

First up is the Sussex XC Championships at Bexhill on Saturday 5th January. Full details have not yet been published but entry via an online system will have to be concluded by your secretary prior to Xmas.

The Sussex Masters’ Championships is on Saturday 19th January at Coombes Farm for females aged 35 and above and Men aged 40 and above (on date of event). It is expected the closing date for entries (again online) will be around 9th January.

The most immediate for entry is the South of England XC Championships at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath (the home of XC running) on Saturday 26th January. Entries, online via the club, closes on 20th December. The club will fund entry fees.

Whilst the club is not proposing to send teams to Harewood House, Leeds on Saturday 23rd February for the National XC Championships there may be a few members who wish to run. Again, it is entry via the club.

Please tell John the events you wish to run in by just replying to this message via the CONTACT US button.

Report from Jim Garland

“On 17th November Beth Garland went north of the border with 40 other Leeds University students to compete in the prestigious Braids Hill Race. In perfect conditions she romped home in first place for the one lap 5k event, improving on her previous best time by 31 seconds. Most notably, she matched her mother's performance from 1990, when Cathy won the same race as a student for Edinburgh University. Both results eclipse my best efforts, a lowly 10th in 1991!”

Thanks Jim and brilliant performance Cathy.

WSFRL

The 2019 season starts on January 1st with the Hangover 5 based in North Worthing by Hill Barn. As ever Peter Anderson would like your names in due course for entry. This is a great run and a brilliant event to kick-start the year.

It was a tight finish to the club standings with Tim Brown/Emma Hughes eventually heading the WSFRL rankings with Jason Snow/Nadia Anderson second and David Pike/ Amanda Godfrey third. Well done to them and everyone who represented the club with special mention to Peter Anderson, Jill Renson, Emma, Nadia and Amanda who competed in all fifteen races during 2018.

Miscellaneous Notices.

The club is holding a drinks evening on Friday 14th December starting in The Foundry from 7:30 pm. All welcome.

A reminder that the club has up to ten guaranteed places for the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 14th April 2019. The entry fee is £75 and open to everyone with allocation on a “first come first served” basis.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend, especially tomorrow at Stanmer Park.
