Xmas Trail Run

Lucy Hilton will be laying a flour trail on Sunday 30th December from the Triangle Car Park on Goodwood Hill. Start anytime between 10.30 am and 12:00 noon with route around 6.5 miles but with a shorter route of 4 miles on offer. This is a good chance to burn off Christmas festive excesses before celebrating New Year!

Lucy is doing this to raise money for Parkinson's UK, so all donations would be very much appreciated. Mince pies will be provided afterwards. If you would prefer to donate on line than on the day her just giving site is: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lucy-hilton8

Training Sessions Over Xmas Period

Chichester College will be closed from 24th December to 2nd January inclusive. However, do not fret as your leaders have other plans to ensure you keep active over the festive period. We will firm up nearer the time on meeting points but there will be senior running sessions at 6:30 pm on Monday 24th December, Thursday 27th December and Wednesday 2nd January.

There will be junior running sessions’ in Oaklands Park at 11.00 am on Monday 24th December, Saturday 29th December, Monday 31st December and Wednesday 2nd January.

In addition, on Wednesday 26th December 26th there will be a serious run session as well as a jog, walk, hop or skip up to the Trundle with pets and friends very welcome with the meet at Goodwood (opposite the Grandstand on the Racecourse) at 11:00 am.

As well as the above, of course, there are the Saturday morning parkruns with extras on Christmas Day and New Year Day mornings, plus the WSFRL fixture at Hill Barn on the 1st January. In fact, the running calendar is so congested you may not have enough time to open all your presents!

It was head torches for many at Queen Elizabeth Country Park a fortnight ago that included James Baker who despite being sent the wrong way won the 15k event in a time of 53.48.

On Saturday 1st December Sarah Morris won the 10k Worthing Running Sisters Xmas Cracker in a time of 46.07 prior to bravely going over to Stanmer Park for the XC League. Brilliant running and commitment Sarah.

Despite the late change of venue, constant drizzle, mist and wind well over 500 competitors still descended on Stanmer Park on Saturday 1st December for the second match of the Sussex XC League. The club had just over 40 runners from U11 to over 70 with Alice Wright and Ned Potter being best placed in fourth positions in the women and U17 men races respectively. There were fine third place team places for the U13 boys and U15 girls. Unfortunately, Simon Ludlam and Ben Collins had to drop out with injuries and we hope they both make swift recoveries. Thanks to everyone for supporting the club on such a horrid day but nevertheless a very enjoyable experience. A full report is on the club’s website.

David Pike recommends the Hogs Back 11.7k road race as a well organised and challenging event in the lovely Surrey countryside. On Sunday 2nd December David clocked 57.18 finishing in 270th place.

Also last Sunday (2nd December) three veterans tried out the course at Coombes Farm for next year’s Masters’ and then did an extra four miles. The “Downland Devil” is an off-road 9 miler on the Downs with some good steep hills’ but a lovely downward finish enjoyed by 251 runners. Kevin Lockyear led our three home in 111th place (1.23.58) with Tracy Lockyear next (163rd – 1.31.24) followed closely by Sue Barty (178th – 1.33.58).

The 72nd staging of the Victory 5 in Portsmouth on Sunday 2nd December as always attracted a large field for this two-lap five-mile road race. James Baker led the club home in 15th place (26.21 – 1st V40) followed by Justin Eggins (101st – 30.57) and Helen Dean (266th & 1st V60 – 36.07).

Miscellaneous Notices.

A reminder that Amanda/Andy have a Physical Preparation session for Sunday 16th December at 10:30 am in the Clubrooms of Chichester College. It is limited to fifteen people and please book you place with Amanda via her mobile on 07702 780029.

Following requests, the club will be holding its next Quiz/Curry evening at the College on Friday 22nd February 2019. Please note your diaries.

Sunday 31st March 2019 is the date of the Mels Milers’ multi-terrain 10k race based at Christ Hospital School. This will give many an opportunity to test the venue prior to the Sussex Road Relays at same location the following Saturday (6th April). This is a great course, always well managed with showers and plenty of parking available, plus the bonus at £14 of a reasonably modest entry fee for these times. Check out Mels Milers’ website for full details.

Thanks to Keith and Lorna for organising the Handicap on Wednesday that still attracted 27 runners despite the wet conditions. The results will be posted on FACEBOOK.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include those from the club representing Sussex in the Inter Counties XC Championships in Oxford tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday the Mince Pie 10 at Peacehaven.
