Chichester Half Marathon

The final touches are being made by the Race Team for the Chichester Half Marathon/10 Mile/Relays on Sunday 7th October. They are short of two positions namely to help John Jones with the manual recording and timing of some of the early finishers and someone to help with the administration of the relays. If anyone can assist to fill these important duties, please contact Graham Jessop via grahamjessop@btinternet.com.

Over the weekend of August 25th/26th Any Hall travelled to the Alexander Stadium to compete in the hammer and weight throw in the 55 - 60 age group at the British Masters’ Track & Field Championships. Both events were held on the Sunday, when summer officially decided to end and over 20mm of rain fell on the event. With four of the top five performers this year with the 6kg hammer the competition was always going to be close, but the conditions made the circle particularly slippery. Having watched many of the competitors lose their footing or throw the hammer into the cage Andy opted to throw off two turns rather than three. In second place after round 1 he produced a longer throw of 40.89 in the 4th round to become the British Champion. In the early afternoon conditions improved slightly for the weight throw where Andy threw a new PB of 14.24 to finish runner up by just 30cm.

It was a pleasant morning on Sunday 26th August to run around Arundel Park for the regular challenging 10k event put on by the Scouts. In the large field of runners included from the club were 11th Seth Wise, 32nd & 1st Lady Alice Cox-Rusbridge, 67th Emma Hughes, 73rd Dan King, 80th Ashley Pledger, 101st Emma Wickens, 106th David Pike, 189th Ian Robertson, 300th Peter Shaw, 365th Jeremy Harrison, 401st Amanda Trafford, 552nd Helen Wilkins, 598th Johanna Harrison and 609th Richard Woolston.

Our youngsters did the club proud at the Sussex Track & Field Championships last weekend with the U13 squad finishing fourth whilst it was third for the U15’s.

There were 28 club members within the field of 358 for the latest WSFRL match at Fittleworth on Sunday 2nd September. This brilliant turn-out resulted in the club finishing in sixth place with 111 points (only seven below the winners). Our contingent was James Baker, Jason Snow, David Pike, Emma Hughes, Mike Moorcroft, Richard Holder, Tim Brown, Marcus Hammerton, Simon Ludlam, Nadia Anderson, Dan Busher, Tony Cooley, Elizabeth Robinson, Amanda Godfrey, Sue Barty, Peter Anderson, Jeremy Harrison, Nicola Jolly, Sue Baker, Vicky Irwin, Trevor Baker, Harry Mitton, Dave Barty, Martin Fryer, Gillian Brown, Laura Holder, Clare Snow and Jill Renson, plus Hal Edgar running in the junior race.

Please do tell Peter Anderson (07786 036820 or nadandpeter@btinternet.com) about running for the club in the WSFRL match at Tilgate (Crawley) on Sunday 23rd September and the Windlesham House School 5 on Sunday 30th September.

Many thanks to the team who managed the “Handicap” series over the summer. The “Winter” one will return in October.

Good luck to everyone running this week to include on Sunday the Littlehampton Coastal 10k and the Open Meeting at Bournemouth.
