Emsworth to Basingstoke Team Relay

The “Emsworth to Basingstoke” is a relaxed team event that takes runners through some beautiful Hampshire countryside. Last year we entered a couple of teams and this year would like to repeat this or maybe better it!

Each runner does three legs totalling between 7 and 9 miles. There are no rules about how the legs are arranged so you can run all in one go!! There is already interest from last year’s runners who really enjoyed the day and the lead up to it with group recces.

This is a great way to meet other runners in the club and a fantastic team event. If you want to know more, please talk to Amanda Godfrey (amandagodfrey@btinternet.com) or Peter Anderson. More details also can be found on the event website www.emsworthrelay.org.uk.

Results

Thankfully the bad weather in our area cleared to make ideal conditions for the Chichester Priory (Goodwood) 10k Road Race on Sunday 3rd February. Representation from the club exceeded 70 so with apologises (especially to the many with PBs’) we will not be naming everyone here.

In respect of teams Harry Leleu (recording 30.51 the second fastest 10k time in the club’s history), Chris Bird and Jo Corbett brilliantly secured first Men’s team despite fierce opposition from several clubs entering a number of regular sub-30-minute runners. Our Ladies team of Lucy Thraves, Alice Cox-Rusbridge and Helen Dean (whose time puts her fifth ranked V60 in the UK lists this year) being third Sussex team, whilst with Mike Houston the Men finished second Sussex team. Jon McElhill finished third in the Sussex V60 Men’s category. Overall an excellent morning of running and congratulations to the Event Team for putting on such a successful event.

A number of the “Foundation” Group decided instead of a 10k to compete in the Portsmouth Coastal Half on Sunday 3rd February. Vicky Balandis led the team home in 220th place clocking 1.49.10 (a great PB we think) followed by Jo Brining (268th – 1.52.57), Trevor Baker (285th – 1.54.30), Emily Bye (287th – 1.54.34), Jane Taylor (397th – 2.03.21), Simon Thompson (492nd – 2.11.24), Sarah Freeman-Smith (613rd – 2.24.25), Helen Wilkins (614th – 2.24.26), Claire Solliss (623rd – 2.26.29), Clare Snow (652nd – 2.31.40), and Clare Boxall (690th – 2.46.39).
