Trail Run

Many thanks to Martin for laying a great trail last Wednesday. A venue not visited by the club for several years returns next week (14th June) with Gary Tompsett laying a mix of flour arrows and dots around the delightful Pagham Harbour (SZ857967) with start time as ever between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. From Chichester proceed on the Selsey Road (B2145) through Hunston and Sidlesham and turn left into the Pagham Harbour RSPB Car Park (blue visitors sign marked “Pagham Harbour Reserve”). Dogs, of course, in the Reserve must be kept on leads please. Enjoy.

South Downs Way Relay

Report from Keith in respect of the “A” team of Mike Houston, Charles Rodmell, Graham Woodward, John Bullard, Justin Eggins and Keith Akerman. “Superb driving and timekeeping from Tony Cooley. In summation, another superb South Downs Way 100-mile Relay.  We managed to finish with the quickest time for a Chichester team since 2010 in 11hrs 51 minutes 55sec. This is a side issue as whilst winning is important the taking part is even more important, an event that features good humour and happy faces on everybody involved including over 350 runners, 200 marshals, plus a few tears and the odd aching muscle! A long but very rewarding day.”

Mike Moorcroft for the “B” Team. “An awesome day after a last-minute team adjustments thank you David Knight and Ben Ritchie for stepping in at last moment to make up the team joining Mark Jennings, Jason Boswell, David Pike and myself with Tom driving brilliantly the minibus that fits all spaces. Having a team mostly of newcomers, doing three legs and living in a minibus for the day did not deter them and they certainly rose to the occasion. No mean feat but excellent fun helped by the egging on of Team “A” and banter and a promise of beer at the end. The weather was kind although it did get hot mid-day and as Tom mentioned "aye it’s gonna be hot out there" we were prepared. Luckily it clouded over and cooled down a bit. Competition was good and judging by the silence in the minivan driving home we had given it our all.”

Our Chairman was again in “ultra” mood on Sunday 28th May by competing the 50k Weald Challenge with a brilliant time of 5.50.66 in 78th place. Tom just missed out being first V60 by only two seconds!

On a dry and sunny morning over 2000 runners went to Worthing on Sunday 3rd June for their 10k road race. Our contingent was led home by Andrew Moore in a time of 42.56 followed by Helen Dean (46.21 and 1st V60), Lynette Woodward (54.48), Ian Stevens (56.25), Mark Ring (57.07), Kerry Dutton (59.19), Sonsoles Acosta (60.27), Richard Woolston (66.22 and a welcome return to competitive running after a period of illness) and Joanne Brown (78.42). Brilliant running by everyone.

Chris Zablocki back in the UK for a long weekend joined James Baker at the front of the field from the off in the Portsmouth D-Day 10k last Sunday. Running together they crossed the line together in a time of 33.28 with James being awarded first place. In the field of 306 runners was also Stefano Cerea having a great run in 37th place beating the magic 40-minute barrier by 7 seconds (39.53) and helping Chichester Runners & AC to the first male team award and Sue Baker (236th – 58.17).
