Chichester Corporate Challenge

Another excellent evening of City Centre road racing last Wednesday with again amazing numbers running across all the event categories. The atmosphere was electric with many notable performances and several improving on their first run time. Thankfully the weather was fine, and the promised rain came later than forecast. Once again, a sincere thank you to Phil, Mark, Jill and everyone who assisted in making this another brilliant event. Bring on Wednesday 21st March!

Summer Trail Runs

Save for a couple of gaps Peter Shaw has produced the programme for the Summer Trail Runs. Apart from the 23rd May and 20th June (Club Races) there will be a trail laid every Wednesday evening from 28th March until 26th September (25 events). The programme is produced on the “Trail Run” page of this website to include some useful information. Remember it is not a race and suitable for everyone. We look forward to welcoming back to the club our large contingent of “Summer Only” members.

Message from Joanne Brown

“Izzie has taken a break from track now that she has finished her degree. There is no Club system in the USA for Track & Field and although some running clubs exist it is nothing like the set up in the UK. This we think is an opportunity missed as there are facilities in every town, practically at every school and college but not being used!

However Izzie has returned to running and been training all winter in snow and ice for the "Horsetooth Half Marathon". Its set in the foothills of the Rockies and overlooks her home town of Fort Collins. Horsetooth Rock is named because the ridges resemble the ridges of a horse’s tooth. This is a favourite hiking trail that Grahame and I have made it to the top a
couple of times. Apparently, there are seven hills on the course but looks like something Mr Blaylock and others would love, especially the aptly named Monster Mountain.

Izzie’s training is going well, and she is aiming for sub two hours. It will depend on the weather and as like me she prefers the cold but there should still be snow on the ground in April.”

Sundry Items

After a three-month break the West Sussex Fun Run League returns with the excellent 10k at Lewes (base Leisure Centre, BN7 2XG) on Monday 2nd April at 11:00 am. This season Peter Anderson is managing the pre-entries so please contact him direct if you wish to run. Everyone welcome and these enjoyable and team-based events are ideal for those new to competitive running and at £3 great value. Peter’s contact details are 07786 036870 or email at nadandpeter@btinternet.com.

Remember please to book your place(s) for the club’s Presentation Dinner/Dance at the Crouchers Hotel (Birdham Road) on Saturday 14th April. At this function there will be an award for the Club Member of the Year as voted for by members. There are no criteria just who you think has contributed significantly to the club during the last 12 months. Please register your vote with a Committee Member or just respond to this message. All individual voting will be in strict confidence and it would also be helpful to receive a very short note of your reasons.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend to include our juniors representing Sussex at the National Inter Counties XC Championships at Loughborough on Saturday and the Surrey Half on Sunday.
