Club Handicap Event

Handicap Event

As mentioned in a recent Newsletter the club is introducing a Handicap Event around the city centre once a month over the winter period. The first event is on Thursday 5th October with the base being The Pavilion at Chichester College.

The purpose of the session is to test and hopefully improve your pacing so you will not be allowed to wear any time pieces or alternative support advices i.e. running naked!  It is open for all and there will be no other training sessions on these evenings. All runners must wear high-viz clothing and not wear headphones please.

On arrival, you will be asked to book in and estimate your running time for the 3.68 mile course. A description of the course is below and a link to a course map can be found on the “Winter” section of the Training page of this website. Additionally, next week the various training groups will offer a run around the course so as familiarise as many of you as practical and it will also be displayed on the club’s Noticeboard in The Pavilion.

Those organising the event will arrive around 6:00 pm for warm-up and with starts between 6:15 pm but no later than 7:00 pm. Small groups of mixed ability will be sent off at staggered intervals, on return allocated a token prior to booking back in. To clarify it is an individual based event rather than group running.

For preparation purposes, it would help us to let a Leader at training know or respond to either Amanda or Keith (their email addresses are shown below) if you are proposing to be involved but if you cannot commit in advance do not worry and just turn up on the evening. We also need around six to assist on the evening with reception, timekeeping, finish etc so again please lodge your interest in this respect.

As this is a club event there is, of course, no entry fee but hopefully many will stay afterwards to socialise in The Pavilion. There will be a prize for the one closest to their estimate and not the person running the course the fastest or the slowest.

Please support this new venture for the club that should be great fun as well as a very useful training tool.
