Track Opening

To celebrate the formal opening of the Phil Baker Athletics Track, the Club is providing the opportunity for members to run an accurately timed lap of the new track at an afternoon of 300m races.

The formal track opening is at 1.30pm, with racing between 2pm and 5pm. The Pavilion Bar will be open and selling drinks, teas, coffees and snacks.

We will be catering for all athletes from 8 years to 80 years, and entries will be arranged into suitable age groups. We will be running 6 athletes per race using the staggered start and running in lanes.

The track has been certified for Level 1 events and is exactly 300m. We will be using electronic photo finish timing so that results are both accurate and immediate. This also means that we will be able to set races off every 4 to 5 minutes to provide a high octane afternoon of running.

Those who post fast 300m times in their races will be invited to participate in “finals” later in the afternoon.

Subject to demand, we would also like to host either a 1500m or 3000m race as well. Due to time constraints, these would have to be limited to people who can run the distance in under 6½ / 14 minutes. Please indicate whether this would be of interest to you.
